Motion Capture Markers

These small silver spheres are placed on points along the human body. Special cameras pick up their movement as a human stands in front of the camera, and using software researchers can see exactly how the human body is moving.

These can be time consuming to be placed individually, and while markers do usually have to pertain to specific bony areas of the body these on the thigh and calf do not. These get built into the suit and reduce donning time.

I made these curved “clusters” in SolidWorks and 3D printed them

Old gear

Pre wrap wrapped around the limb secures the cluster and it’s sliced around the motion capture markers so they can been picked up by the cameras.

This method is all separate little parts. It requires many researchers working all at once on the participant, and many many rolls of tape and pre-wrap
